THE RESEARCH BEHIND YOUR RANGE

See the evidence and how we use it
  • ENERGY STAR county design temperatures: local outdoor conditions anchor the load calculation. Shelby County’s published design points are 92°F cooling and 3°F heating.
  • DOE load-calculation guidance and ACCA resources inform heat-loss, airflow and final equipment-selection checks.
  • Carrier pricing guidance, Trane and regional contractor references help frame capacity, equipment tier and installation allowances.
  • DOE furnace-efficiency guidance distinguishes older low-efficiency equipment from 80% and high-efficiency systems. For equal delivered heat, 80% to 95% AFUE implies about 16% less fuel; it is not a whole-bill guarantee.
  • ENERGY STAR replacement guidance describes up to 20% heating/cooling savings for a correctly installed qualifying replacement of an AC or heat pump over 10 years old.

The count is of distinct cited pages, not independent studies or endorsements. Pricing research was compiled October 7, 2026; these highlighted methodology references were reviewed October 11, 2026. The qualitative inputs, price adjustments and savings scenarios are this calculator’s assumptions. It is not a validated Manual J/Manual S design or a binding quote.

A SIMPLE START

Basic Build Your Estimate

A few quick choices. Your range updates as you go, and every question can be skipped.

Count all floors this system serves. Include a heated / cooled basement once. Leave out garages and unconditioned space.

This describes the new furnace, not your existing equipment.

A quick system history (optional)

A quick system history

About how old is each piece? Skip anything you don’t have or don’t know.

Count repairs, not routine tune-ups. Your best guess is fine.

Homeownership & financing (optional)

* Homeownership can affect which financing options may be available. You can skip this; it does not change your estimate.

YOUR STARTING RANGE

Your installed estimate

$6,700–$16,600

Furnace + AC · Single-stage

More detailed home information helps tighten your estimate range. Skipped answers leave a wider starting range.

Home size is unknown, so this starts with a 2–3 ton budget class. Your actual home may need a different budget.

Includes equipment and routine installation. Major duct/electrical work, financing charges and separately billed tax are extra. Wyatt confirms your exact price at a free visit.

Your Top 10 wish list

What matters most? Tap your biggest priority first, then add any others. Every choice is optional.

Choose from 10 priorities to help Wyatt tailor your options.

Compare monthly payments.

Payments reflect your selections. Choose a preference or decide later. This is not a credit application.

Based on your current installed range: $6,700–$16,600

Illustrations use this planning range, no down payment and no added fees. Rates and promotions require approved credit, eligible equipment and current lender terms. The 6.99%/15-year example is not a guaranteed offer or the lowest available payment. The 18-month promotion may charge deferred interest from the purchase date if not paid in full. It is separate from 0% installment financing. Savings, financing and other discounts may not combine. Monthly figures round up to whole dollars.

What could an upgrade save?

A quick look using equipment age and a bill range. No paperwork needed.

Lower-end scenario4%$58 / yearAbout $4 / month
Up to14%$176 / yearAbout $14 / month

A planning range for heating & cooling costs. The lower end is not a guaranteed minimum or a measured household average; actual savings can be zero.

Example savings until you add your details. For heating & cooling costs, not your whole utility bill. Actual savings vary.

Personalize my savings (optional)

Check the old unit’s label. This is separate from the new furnace you are comparing.

Choose a typical month across the year. A rough range is enough.

How this savings estimate works

No bill range selected: uses an example $200 combined monthly energy bill.

Assumes half of the combined energy bill is heating/cooling, split 70% heating and 30% cooling. These are planning assumptions, not a measured bill breakdown.

AC age unknown: uses a 10–14-year example.

Furnace age unknown: uses a 10–14-year example.

Existing efficiency is unknown; uses a disclosed scenario of 80–90% AFUE. Selected replacement: 95–97% AFUE. Compares unchanged fuel prices and delivered heat; age alone does not establish efficiency.

Current heating fuel was not provided; same-fuel replacement is assumed for furnace or heat-pump packages.

The lower-end figure is a conservative scenario, not a measured average or guaranteed minimum. Cooling and heat-pump lower scenarios use half the upper age/tier assumption; furnace bounds use the disclosed AFUE comparison.

Age/tier savings are illustrative scenarios, not measured efficiency. Repairs and comfort symptoms do not increase the savings percentage. Actual savings may be zero; costs may rise after a fuel change or a lower-efficiency replacement.

General guidance: ENERGY STAR replacement guidance · DOE heating efficiency guide · DOE home heating and cooling overview. The age bands and bill allocation are this calculator’s planning assumptions.

Questions before you book?

Is this an exact quote?

This is a planning range based on your home answers, equipment and selected extras. Your free Comfort Assessment checks the fit and installation needs so Wyatt can give you an exact written quote.

What does the price include?

Equipment, old-system removal, routine installation, standard controls and startup checks, using suitable existing ducts and normal access. Selected add-ons appear separately.

Major duct or electrical work, relocation, difficult access and hidden damage can change the price. Custom-priced items, financing charges and separately billed tax are excluded. Any overlapping items are credited in your written quote.

How is equipment size estimated?

Your answers help estimate heat moving through the home, including windows, insulation, outside air and ducts. Unknown details widen the range.

This preliminary block load is not a completed Manual J or Manual S design. Wyatt verifies measurements, airflow and manufacturer performance before choosing equipment.

How are the price ranges built?

Equipment and installation research, regional contractor guidance and Costimates benchmarks provide the starting ranges. Your selections adjust the budget. The visit confirms your home’s actual needs and price.

How do payments and rebates work?

Monthly payments use your displayed estimate. Actual rates, fees and offers depend on credit approval, equipment and lender terms. Same-as-cash plans may charge deferred interest if not paid in full by the deadline.

Rebates depend on your utility, equipment and program eligibility. They are not deducted from this estimate. Wyatt checks what applies before you decide.
